In his first interview since Travis, 34, and Taylor Swift, 33, unveiled their budding relationship, Ed shared with PEOPLE his method of getting to know the global sensation. 

He confessed to immersing himself in Swift’s interviews and appearances to glean insights about her personality. “I’ve gone back and listened to interviews she’s done over the years because it gives you a sense of what a person is like,” Ed explained. 

He cited Swift’s commencement address at NYU as particularly impressive. “She’s a very genuine, down-to-earth person,” he said, reaffirming his initial impression of her.
