John Stamos recounts day Bob Saget died: ‘I hit the ground and slammed my knees’

John Stamos recounted the tragic passing of Full House co-star Bob Saget in his memoir If You Would Have Told Me.

Saget suddenly passed away last year after suffering from blunt head trauma, at age 65.

Stamos recalls the day he of his death, when he received a call from his publicist who asked him if he had heard from Saget since news of his death was making rounds. Saget’s wife Kelly Rizo then called him to inform of his death.

Stamos was in his car, driving with his son when he received the calls: “When I switch callers over to Kelly, all I hear is a wailing scream. I hit the ground in the parking lot and my knees slam down on the asphalt. ‘Noooooooo!’”

“My son is still sound asleep in the backseat of my car. I pull myself together to drive home and start making calls,” he writes of the tragic ordeal.

“First to [my wife] Caitlin, she’s in disbelief. She calls her parents to come watch Billy. Then to Dave [Coulier]. ‘Dave, Bob Saget is dead.’”

“I call Lori [Loughlin], who’s on the eighth hole of Lake View Country Club golfing with her husband [Massimo Giannulli]. ‘Bob is dead, Lori.’ She tells me later she dropped to her knees like me. Billy wakes up. ‘Daddy?’ I love you, son.”

Stamos admitted in the memoir that he is “still not ready to accept that he’s gone” and “Not sure I ever will be.”

He then shared the lesson he learned from Saget: “I learned from Bob [that] tomorrow’s not promised. Live every moment to the fullest and tell everybody that you care about them.”
