Washington Huskies secured an impressive 34-31 win against the Oregon Ducks to maintain their winning streak in the regular season and bagging the Pac-12 title.

With the win at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas — season’s second against Orgeon — the Huskies are set to secure a spot in the top four teams in the playoffs.

During the match, in order to counter Oregon’s 24-20 lead in the fourth quarter, quarterback Michael Penix completed 27 of 39 passes for 319 yards and engineered a touchdown and two touchdown drives.

Despite being ahead in the second quarter with a lead of 20-3, the Huskies came close to losing until their offence found new life against the fatigued defence of the Ducks and changed the tide of the game.

The Huskies’ final ranking position is up for debate, and it will be determined by the outcomes of the SEC championship game between Georgia and Alabama and the Big Ten championship game between Michigan and Iowa.

In any case, Washington will make Pac-12 history by qualifying for the playoffs for the first time since the Huskies did so in 2016 under ex-coach Chris Petersen.

After finishing the regular season undefeated in one of the best FBS leagues, Washington can now relax and watch how the remaining Power Five teams fare during Saturday’s games.

The only thing that needs to be seen is where the Huskies will finish, whether it’s number one or the number three sport. If the Ducks win again, there’s no way Washington will drop to fourth.

For Washington to secure the top spot requires two upsets i.e., Alabama and Iowa’s win over Georgia and Michigan, respectively.

If both favourites prevail, the Huskies will likely remain at the number three spot, but a double victory over Oregon might be enough to move them up above the Wolverines.

Huskies remain a strong side to win the national championship as a team that won against Oregon, not once but twice, is more than capable of defeating any adversary on a neutral field to bag the national championship.
