Abdullah Shafique marked his World Cup debut with a century on Tuesday as Pakistan successfully chased 345 to defeat Sri Lanka in their second game of the tournament.

Shafique’ 113-run knock was laced with 10 fours and three sixes. In the process, he became the only Pakistani batter to score a century on his World Cup debut.

During the post-match presentation, Captain Babar Azam expressed his satisfaction with Shafique’s performance, especially considering it was the 23-year-old’s first appearance in the World Cup.

“Very happy with the way he’s playing. This is his first World Cup. He has hunger to play, I saw him in the nets so I decided to play him. The way Rizwan and Abdullah built the partnership, they helped us,” Babar said.
