NFL playoff scenarios: NFC field could fill up in Week 15

Only one team has clinched an NFL playoff berth entering Week 15, but a number of others can punch their tickets this weekend while others will be looking to stave off elimination. Here’s a look at the scenarios.

San Francisco 49ers (10-3)

The 49ers already have clinched a playoff berth. San Francisco will clinch the NFC West title with a win or tie against the Arizona Cardinals, or with a Los Angeles Rams loss or tie against the Washington Commanders.

The Cowboys will clinch a playoff berth most easily with a win or tie against the Buffalo Bills, or with losses/ties by the Rams and Seahawks. Dallas also can clinch a playoff berth via numerous combinations of wins and losses by other teams.

Philadelphia Eagles (10-3)

The Eagles will clinch a playoff berth most easily with a win or tie against the Seattle Seahawks. Philadelphia also can clinch a playoff berth via numerous combinations of wins and losses by other teams.

There are numerous pathways to the playoffs for the Lions in Week 15, all of them involving a win or tie against the Denver Broncos. In most of the scenarios, Detroit also would need losses or ties by the Seahawks and/or Rams to clinch a berth.

There are numerous clinching scenarios for the Ravens in Week 15, all of them involving a win or tie against the Jacksonville Jaguars plus losses or ties by other teams.

Washington Commanders (4-9)

The Commanders will be eliminated from playoff contention with a loss to the Rams, or with a tie plus a Vikings win or tie, plus a Bears win, plus a Falcons win, plus a Packers win, plus a Saints win.

The Cardinals will be eliminated from playoff contention most easily with a loss to the 49ers. Arizona also will be eliminated by a number of other scenarios involving wins or ties by other teams.

The Jets will be eliminated from playoff contention with a loss to the Miami Dolphins plus other results, most of them involving wins or ties by the Buffalo Bills or Cleveland Browns.

The Titans will be eliminated from playoff contention with a loss to the Houston Texans plus one of the following: Colts win, Steelers win, Bengals win or tie, Broncos win/Raiders win or Bills win/Broncos win/Chargers win.

7. Green Bay Packers (6-7, hold tiebreaker over Los Angeles Rams because of head-to-head victory)

3. Kansas City Chiefs (8-5, hold tiebreaker over Jacksonville Jaguars because of head-to-head victory)

4. Jacksonville Jaguars (8-5)

5. Cleveland Browns (8-5)

6. Pittsburgh Steelers (7-6, hold tiebreaker over Indianapolis Colts because of record in common games)

7. Indianapolis Colts (7-6, hold tiebreaker over Houston Texans because of head-to-head victory and over the Buffalo Bills/Denver Broncos/Cincinnati Bengals because of better conference record)

Still in contention: Houston Texans (7-6), Denver Broncos (7-6), Cincinnati Bengals (7-6), Buffalo Bills (7-6), Los Angeles Chargers (5-8), Las Vegas Raiders (5-8), New York Jets (5-8), Tennessee Titans (5-8)

Eliminated: New England Patriots (3-10)
